Finding beauty around you daily, in photos

Beauty in photos – Nancy E. Hassel, ThisFurryLife.com

Finding beauty around you every day – whether you live in the city, suburbia or in the country – should not be that hard to do.

From the city skyline, your favorite flower at the park or a bucolic country landscape – these days it is so easy to capture that view.

Whether you’re an avid photographer or novice using your iPhone, we are incredibly fortunate to live in a day and age to be able to take photos at any given moment.  (And video, and Live video on our phones, it is crazy, what an amazing time we live in!)

I have been taking pictures since as long as I can remember – one year for Christmas as a little kid I got 110 camera and film – absolutely my favorite present that year, and I am sure I drove my parents crazy taking pictures. (I know I am dating myself, but I don’t care!)

In college, I majored in communications and journalism with a focus in television – my very last semester I had 3 credits to fill, and decided to take photography.  It thought it would be a good fit with my major, and since I had already taken every class and then some focused around TV – there wasn’t anything left to take.  Photography quickly became a favorite class of mine – and of course my final project of photos was done in black and white film of horses, of course it was of animals.

I thought for a while right after graduation that I wished I had majored in photography, but I am actually really glad I didn’t – because while working in television production I worked with some of the best DP’s (Director of Photography), in television, film and still photography – and learned even more from them.

I am still a student of photography.  I really should take a class to be better at it, and completely understand every function on my camera.    I am inspired by local photographers here on Long Island capturing wildlife and every day moments in time.
