Rescues collaborating during the Holidays

In the last week I have attended several different pet events benefitting many different animal rescue organizations.  It is such a wonderful thing to see so many groups working together for the same cause – saving animals and helping in the community.

First we stopped at Jo-mar Dog Grooming & Boarding in Floral Park, NY where they teamed up with Rock and Rawhide for their 3rd Annual Shelter Pet Drive.  They had an ugly Christmas sweater contest for dogs, pictures with Santa and tons of Holiday cheer.  And the fact that it was snowing a bit helped to ad to the festivities!  The rescue groups that were in attendance were Forgotten Friends of Long Island, Bumber Bulldog Rescue, Almost Home Animal Rescue and the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter.

My dog Cody was having a blast getting so much attention from everyone there – and meeting Santa.

The next day we went to Shirley Feed where PAC (People Advocating for Change) was hosting their annual Holiday Extravaganza where there were rescues including  Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation, North Fork Welfare Animal League and Brookhaven Animal Shelter.   Along with great raffles, they had free food, music, face painting and lots of holiday celebration.  PAC helps decrease the overpopulation of animals in LI area communities and helps decrease the number of pets surrendered to animal shelters. The help pet owners in a non-judgmental arena to provide support to community members.  Learn more about PAC here.

Then this past Monday, I along with many pet industry friends headed to NYC for the annual Bash for the Bullies with Beth Stern, Jill Rappaport and friends to benefit the Long Island Bull Dog Rescue.  The gala event was held at The London Hotel and was everything you expect a holiday celebration is in NYC. A live band playing, drinks flowing, everyone was glammed up including the bulldogs that were there.  All of which were saved from terrible situations, now living the life.  Many people who support many other, (or their own) animal rescue organizations were there for LIBR.

All of these events show that collaboration, community and supporting each other what makes this part of our industry very forfilling.  Rescue organizations go above and beyond to help save pets, many of you reading this can relate or look over to your own pets knowing their story before you adopted them.
I am always so thankful for all the rescue organizations, the people that run them and volunteer their time for them.  You can be supportive and help in any way that you can – even just attending a small event, making a donation or dropping off supplies.  Every little bit helps!

This coming weekend I will be heading to a few more events hosted at different animal shelters – and would love to hear where you will be to help support our incredible animal rescue organizations!  Post a comment below and let us know.
